Business context
Choose milestone-engagement capabilities, excluding generic agency PM and project profitability.
A management consultancy needs to understand whether its people can deliver promised client milestones. A list of completed tasks does not necessarily explain an engagement’s state or the resource commitments competing with it.
Select around the engagement structure: client, phases, milestone dates, responsible participants and planned work. This is functional fit for a consulting business, not an agency project-management ranking or margin calculation.
Requirements shaped by the engagement
| Consulting condition | Capability to inspect |
|---|---|
| Several phases precede delivery | Phase structure separate from tasks |
| Client decisions affect progress | Milestone context and decision owner |
| Specialists serve several engagements | Competing commitments across projects |
| Discovery changes estimates | Revised plan distinguishable from assumptions |
| Clients receive updates | Deliberate external view of the engagement |
Ask whether milestones are meaningful events or simply dated tasks. Either representation may fit, provided everyone understands what completion means.
A documented candidate and interface distinction
Scoro documents project phases and milestones. Its guide explains that milestones appear in the Gantt chart rather than the project task list. Inspect that distinction if project owners expect milestones in their routine list view.
Those records do not prove that the resource model, client permissions or intended reports fit the proposed package. Ask the supplier to demonstrate those adjacent requirements. No utilization or delivery-performance result is claimed here.
Evaluate overlapping engagements
Create fictional engagements sharing one specialist. Give each phases and a client milestone. Move one milestone and ask the planner to show how the revised commitment affects the other engagement.
Complete tasks while a client decision remains unresolved. Inspect whether the owner can represent work done separately from an accepted milestone. The distinction should not exist only in an informal message.
Produce the intended client update. Check what the client sees about milestones and decisions, and what stays internal about staffing. A portal should follow the communication agreement rather than expose every field by default.
Include an engagement closed while late work remains recorded. Ask who reconciles the final delivery state and whether the project can retain that history without appearing active indefinitely.
Keep selection proportionate
A small consultancy may maintain this structure in an existing platform. A services-oriented product becomes more relevant as overlapping people, phases and reporting become hard to reconcile.
